Shin pain is typically referred to as shin splints. While shin splints are probably the most common reason for shin pain they are just one possible cause which is why it is important to make accurate diagnoses and prescribe the correct treatment.
Shin pain will often arise after an increase in exercise having caused muscles to overstrain.
Most shin pain is easily treatable through the adjustment of incorrect biomechanics, through a rehabilitative programme of muscle strengthening and lengthening exercises and at times via the use of orthoses.
